Ride with me, NYC

A while back, I was introduced to Roos Stallinga. Roos was a Fulbright alumni to the States and lived in New York while she was there. As normal for the Dutch, she got a bicycle and explored the city. She loved it so much that she decided to do a book project on the subject. Her book will be a fun description of bike routes around the city showcasing cool spots to stop and hang out or get a coffee and snack. She calls it an "inspirational bike guide to New York City" and it will include interviews and plenty of her art work. I helped Roos spiff up her old Panasonic ten speed in Delft one chilly March afternoon so she could have a well oiled steed for her latest New York trip. You can find out more about her project at www.nycbikeprincess.com and check out here art and photography at www.roosart.nl.

I only rode a bike once in NYC. Part of my traject was on the sidewalk (I've seen tons of bikes go on the sidewalk in New York), which was noted by some overactive cops. They sent a car after me and wrote me a summons. After that I didn't bike anymore - and I gave up on the idea of living in the US for a more extended period of time. It cost me 250 US$ to have a lawyer represent for me.
